Custom Applicator / Driver

To be successful in a Custom Applicator / Driver position, the candidate should enjoy working both independently and in a group setting, be a self-starter, possess independent-thinking skills and have a desire to learn both grain and agronomy.

It is imperative that the successful candidate display a positive attitude that promotes teamwork and a favorable image of the cooperative. Employees are required to work occasional weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS

  • Communicate with Agronomist or location manager concerning daily activities
  • Deliver grain, feed, fertilizer or chemicals
  • Apply dry and liquid fertilizer, chemicals and lime to customer's fields
  • Assist in housekeeping and maintenance of facility grounds
  • Assist with outbound and inbound agronomy products
  • Ensure Safety compliance.
  • Maintain & record maintenance of all equipment
  • Record daily application logs.
  • Assist with measure and counting of inventory of dry and liquid fertilizers, NH3, lime, and chemicals.
  • Provide courteous customer service.
  • Operate all equipment & vehicles according to COFC policy and procedure along with all local, state, and federal laws.

REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:  Farming background or prior agriculture related employment helpful but not required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures using basic math skills

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Commercial pesticide applicators license with 2A, 2B, 2D endorsements or able to obtain one. 

Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record. This position requires the safe operation of a motor vehicle to perform the essential functions of the job. The employee must meet the qualifications set forth in COFC’s motor vehicle safety policy.   Must be willing and able to obtain CDL Class B with endorsements.  Failure to meet these qualifications could result in removal from this position.

Grain Handler

Employees are required to work occasional weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.  It is imperative that the successful candidate display a positive attitude that promotes teamwork and a favorable image of the cooperative.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Properly load/unload trucks
  • Properly load railcars
  • Perform minor maintenance and greasing of equipment
  • Assist with cleaning of bins and silos
  • Learn the proper operation of all equipment
  • Maintain and clean work area on a daily basis
  • Position Requirements
  • Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record (5 years)
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MUST HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE
  • Must be safety minded and follow all safety rules and guidelines

The Grain Handler position is labor intensive and will require bending, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, climbing, working at heights and other various laborious activities.

Employees are required to work occasional weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.  It is imperative that the successful candidate display a positive attitude that promotes teamwork and a favorable image of the cooperative.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Must be drug free and submit to drug testing and random drug testing
  • Must have Class B CDL with tanker endorsement or willing to obtain
  • Must be able to secure and maintain a minimum of one year medical card

Grain Merchant

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op, Inc. is seeking a Grain Merchant with an approachable, friendly demeanor with a strong customer service mindset. This position will coordinate the purchase, storage, handling, and marketing of all grain transactions for the grain department’s trade area in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings.  Additional details will include but not limited to: improve the cooperative’s efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service while enforcing and upholding the cooperative’s credit policy.

Position Responsibilities

The grain merchandiser’s responsibilities include recordkeeping, merchandising, grain origination profitability and sales, and other duties as assigned by management.

The grain merchandiser will maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work within the cooperative and a favorable image of the cooperative.

Recordkeeping

Recordkeeping involves maintaining accurate records, including a consolidated daily position record and grain related records, and developing and maintaining a working knowledge of grain industry requirements.

Merchandising

Merchandising involves establishing and communicating a grain marketing policy and a company grain policy, and determining daily bids.

Grain Origination Profitability and Sales

The grain merchandiser will develop and implement programs and merchandising tools to establish the cooperative as customers’ preferred merchandiser.

 

Requirements

High School diploma, GED or equivalent training and experience.

Prefer minimum of Associate’s Degree in Ag-related studies.

Must have clean driving record.

Must be able to pass drug and alcohol pre-employment test and random drug and alcohol testing both DOT and Company policies if possessing a CDL.

Must complete required job training.

  Agronomist

 Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. currently has an Agronomist opening in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.

 Position Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert of products, services, and prices to assist in developing competitive marketing strategies
  • Work closely with customers and growers to recommend the proper fertilizer and crop protection products to meet each individual’s needs
  • Routinely conducts soil testing and maintain reports
  • Responsible for dry, liquid, NH3, lime and chemical inventories
  • Maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work within the cooperative and a favorable image of the cooperative.
  • Conduct sales calls in a professional and courteous manner

 Essential Duties & Functions

  • Communicate with location manager concerning daily activities
  • Assist in housekeeping and maintenance of facility
  • Assist with outbound and inbound agronomy products
  • Operate all equipment & vehicles according to COFC policy and procedure along with all local, state, and federal laws
  • Ensure Safety compliance

 Basic Qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-3 years additional Agronomy/seed experience, OR Scouting/intern experience, OR Cooperative work experience, OR Agricultural background
  • Extensive knowledge of agronomy
  • Experience spraying chemicals
  • Ability to provide cost effective services for co-op patrons
  • Ability to work extended hours in-season
  • Good mathematical aptitude

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. (COFC) has opportunities at multiple locations for Custom Applicators.  These full-time positions will require employee willingness to work in a variety of roles when not performing custom application.

  •         Record daily application logs.
  •         Assist with measure and counting of inventory of dry and liquid fertilizers, NH3, lime, and chemicals.
  •         Provide courteous customer service.
  •         Operate all equipment & vehicles according to COFC policy and procedure along with all local, state, and federal laws.

REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:  3 years Custom Application experience.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
