Custom Applicator

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. is seeking a Custom Applicator to work at our Waldo facility. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS

  • Communicate with Agronomist or location manager concerning daily activities
  • Apply dry and liquid fertilizer, chemicals and lime to customer's fields
  • Assist in housekeeping and maintenance of facility grounds including mowing, spraying weeds and moving snow.
  • Assist with outbound and inbound agronomy products.
  • Operate all equipment & vehicles according to COFC policy and procedure along with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Ensure Safety compliance.
  • Maintain & record maintenance of all equipment
  • Record daily application logs.
  • Assist with measure and counting of inventory of dry and liquid fertilizers, NH3, lime, and chemicals.
  • Provide courteous customer service.

 

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and related 3 years’ experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Commercial pesticide applicators license with 1A, 1B, 1C endorsements or able to obtain one. Must have a valid CDL with required endorsements or be able to obtain one and maintain current DOT physical. Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record. This position requires the safe operation of a motor vehicle to perform the essential functions of the job. The employee must meet the qualifications set forth in COFC’s motor vehicle safety policy. Failure to meet these qualifications could result in removal from this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

 Seasonal Driver

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. has openings in Waldo and Mt. Vernon locations for Seasonal Driver associates.  These positions could be working in the grain, agronomy or fuel divisions.  Positions will be available approximately mid-September thru mid-November.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Pick up and deliver product to customers in a safe, timely, and professional manner, ensuring the truck is operated in a safe manner at all times
  • Follow all guidelines and regulations for hauling seed fertilizer and other bulk liquid products
  • Perform visual inspection of truck before leaving premises and complete maintenance report on all deficiencies
  • Report all accidents, traffic violations, and damage to vehicles
  • Complete daily maintenance report and notify supervisor of any needed repairs.
  • Manage all aspects of the load on your truck
  • Maintain cleanliness of your truck both inside and out
  • Ensure on time loading and unloading
  • Provide excellent customer service, treating all customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Be available to load and/or unload your loads as needed
  • Use sound judgment and abilities to support the best interests of the company in all situations
  • Perform other related duties as needed or assigned
  • Assist in the warehouse when not delivering product
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends and holidays to meet business needs

It is imperative that the Seasonal Driver / General Labor associate maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork and fosters a favorable image of the cooperative.

Position Requirements:

  • CDL Class A or B
  • Tanker Endorsement
  • Hazmat Endorsement
  • Must have a clean driving record 5 years
  • Good communication skills with customers and fellow employees

Facility Manager

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op, Inc. has a Facility Manager opportunity located in Waldo Ohio, reporting directly to the CEO. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in both agronomy and grain facility operations.

Position Objective

  • Direct, promote, and coordinate operations in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings
  • Improve the cooperative’s efficiency
  • Help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals
  • Result in outstanding customer service

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for driving improved performance, customer relationships, plant asset utilization, and positive employee relations.
  • The ability to lead and coach employees while promoting a safe working environment is required.
  • Developing and increasing the customer base and relations will be imperative to the success of this candidate.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture/Agronomy or related field
  • Minimum of 7 years agronomy and grain experience
  • Minimum of 7 years management experience

Agronomy Sales Specialist

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. is seeking a Agronomy Sales Specialist to become a member of our Waldo Team.

 Position Responsibilities

  • Promote seed and fertilizer advice in relation to research and production of crops directly to the farmer
  • Be knowledgeable on seed placement, trouble shooting, and general agronomy related topics
  • Work to develop programs, information, and tools that aid selling effort in the field. Posting signage, coordinating grower meetings, coordinating product knowledge classes, etc.
  • Become a subject matter expert of products, services, and prices to assist in developing competitive marketing strategies
  • Maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work within the cooperative and a favorable image of the cooperative.

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. is seeking an Agronomy Specialist to become a member of our Mt. Vernon Team.

 Position Responsibilities

Become a subject matter expert of products, services, and prices to assist in developing competitive marketing strategies

Work closely with customers and growers to recommend the proper fertilizer and crop protection products to meet each individual’s needs

Routinely conducts soil testing and maintain reports

Responsible for dry, liquid, NH3, lime and chemical inventories

Maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work within the cooperative and a favorable image of the cooperative.

Conduct sales calls in a professional and courteous manner

Grain Elevator Associate – SEASONAL

Anticipated employment dates September 11 – early November

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. is seeking a Seasonal Grain Elevator Associate for employment at our Fredericktown location.  The ideal person will be employed in a team environment, but also profess the ability to work individually.  This person should also be a self-starter.  The candidate will be required to work occasional weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.  It is imperative that the successful candidate display a positive attitude that promotes teamwork and a favorable image of the cooperative.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform minor maintenance and greasing of equipment
  • Assist with cleaning of bins and silos
  • Learn the proper operation of all equipment
  • Properly load trucks
  • Maintain and clean work area on a daily basis
  • Position Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record (5 years)
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.

The Seasonal Grain Elevator Associate is a labor intensive position which will require bending, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, climbing, working at heights and other various laborious activities.
