 Branch Manager

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op, Inc. has a Branch Manager opportunity located in Prospect Ohio, due to a pending retirement. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in both operations of a feed mill, understanding recipes/rations and grain facility operations.

Position Objective

  • Direct, promote, and coordinate operations in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings
  • Improve the cooperative’s efficiency

Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for driving improved performance, customer relationships, plant asset utilization, and positive employee relations.
  • The ability to lead and coach employees while promoting a safe working environment is required.
  • Developing and increasing the customer base and relations will be imperative to the success of this candidate.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years feed and custom-mixing experience
  • Minimum of 10 years grain experience
  • Minimum of 10 years management experience

Grain Elevator / Feed Mill Associate

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op (COFC) is seeking a Grain Elevator / Feed Mill Associate for employment at our Prospect location. The ideal person will understand the importance of providing exceptional customer service to our customers.  This person will thrive equally in a team environment and working alone and must be a self-starter.   The candidate will be required to work occasional weekends during busy seasons, holidays and overtime as needed.  It is imperative that the successful candidate display a positive attitude that promotes teamwork and a favorable image of the cooperative.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform minor maintenance and greasing of equipment
  • Work with rail car movement as required
  • Assist with cleaning of bins and silos
  • Learn the proper operation of all equipment
  • Properly load and unload trucks and load rail cars
  • Maintain and clean work area on a daily basis
  • Learn feed rations
  • Focus on mixing quality feed products
  • Position Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED
  • Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record (5 years)
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs

Transport Driver

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. is seeking a Transport Driver to work at our Marion Oil location.  Must have a Class A CDL, with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements and a minimum of two years hauling fuel or hazardous liquids. 

The position duties include: load, transport and delivering of diesel and gasoline to and from specified locations while interacting with customers and vendors. 

Drivers will be responsible for preparing and maintaining records, and operating truck according to federal regulations and company safety procedures.  This includes conducting pre-trip inspections such as checking fuel and oil levels, inspecting tires lights and brakes.  Must maintain a clean truck and perform required preventative maintenance.

Physical demands include regular handling of hoses and/or equipment of up to 80 pounds which will require lifting, kneeling, squatting, pulling, and prolonged sitting while driving.  Occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions including hot, cold, wet, etc.  Working conditions may include dust, fumes, and chemicals and working at varying heights.

Required

Minimum 2 (two) years fuel/hazardous liquids driving experience

Class A CDL

Hazmat endorsement

Tanker endorsement

Minimum 5 (five) years clean driving record

 Agronomist

 Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. currently has an Agronomist opening in Mt. Vernon, Ohio.

 Position Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert of products, services, and prices to assist in developing competitive marketing strategies
  • Work closely with customers and growers to recommend the proper fertilizer and crop protection products to meet each individual’s needs
  • Routinely conducts soil testing and maintain reports
  • Responsible for dry, liquid, NH3, lime and chemical inventories
  • Maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work within the cooperative and a favorable image of the cooperative.
  • Conduct sales calls in a professional and courteous manner

 Essential Duties & Functions

  • Communicate with location manager concerning daily activities
  • Assist in housekeeping and maintenance of facility
  • Assist with outbound and inbound agronomy products
  • Operate all equipment & vehicles according to COFC policy and procedure along with all local, state, and federal laws
  • Ensure Safety compliance
  • Provide courteous customer service
  • All other duties as assigned

 Basic Qualifications (required):

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-3 years additional Agronomy/seed experience, OR Scouting/intern experience, OR Cooperative work experience, OR Agricultural background
  • Extensive knowledge of agronomy
  • Experience spraying chemicals
  • Ability to provide cost effective services for co-op patrons
  • Ability to work extended hours in-season
  • Good mathematical aptitude

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Commercial Crop Adviser, Pesticide applicators license with 2A, 2B, 2D endorsements or able to obtain one.  Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record. This position requires the safe operation of a motor vehicle to perform the essential functions of the job. The employee must meet the qualifications set forth in COFC’s motor vehicle safety policy. Failure to meet these qualifications could result in removal from this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

EXPERIENCED Custom Applicator

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op Inc. (COFC) has opportunities at multiple locations for Custom Applicators.  These full-time positions will require employee willingness to work in a variety of roles when not performing custom application. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS

  •         Communicate with Agronomist or location manager concerning daily activities
  •         Apply dry and liquid fertilizer, chemicals and lime to customer's fields
  •         Assist in housekeeping and maintenance of facility grounds including mowing and spraying weeds
  •         Assist with outbound and inbound agronomy products
  •         Ensure Safety compliance.
  •         Maintain & record maintenance of all equipment
  •         Record daily application logs.
  •         Assist with measure and counting of inventory of dry and liquid fertilizers, NH3, lime, and chemicals.
  •         Provide courteous customer service.
  •         Operate all equipment & vehicles according to COFC policy and procedure along with all local, state, and federal laws.

REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE:  3 years Custom Application experience.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Commercial pesticide applicators license with 2A, 2B, 2D endorsements or able to obtain one. 

Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record. This position requires the safe operation of a motor vehicle to perform the essential functions of the job. The employee must meet the qualifications set forth in COFC’s motor vehicle safety policy.   Must be willing and able to obtain CDL Class B with endorsements.  Failure to meet these qualifications could result in removal from this position.
