Seasonal Driver

Are you looking for a seasonal position in the Ag industry? Maybe you are a retired Commercial Driver who enjoys driving, but does not want a full-time commitment. Central Ohio Farmers Co-op, Inc. is seeking team members who enjoy working in the ag industry. It is imperative that the successful candidate display an attitude that promotes teamwork and a favorable image of the cooperative. The candidate should be a self-starter and possess independent-thinking skills. Employees are required to work occasional weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.  This and all positions require pre-employment and random drug testing. The current openings for Seasonal Drivers are located at our Monnett, New Bloomington and Mount Vernon locations.

Class A and Class B CDL

Position Responsibilities:

  • Pick up and deliver product to customers in a safe, timely, and professional manner, ensuring the truck is operated in a safe manner at all times
  • Follow all guidelines and regulations for hauling grain, seed, fertilizer and other bulk liquid products
  • Perform visual inspection of truck before leaving premises and complete maintenance report on all deficiencies
  • Report all accidents, traffic violations, and damage to vehicles
  • Complete daily maintenance report and notify supervisor of any needed repairs.
  • Manage all aspects of the load on your truck
  • Maintain cleanliness of your truck both inside and out
  • Ensure on time loading and unloading
  • Provide excellent customer service, treating all customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Be available to load and/or unload your loads as needed
  • Use sound judgment and abilities to support the best interests of the company in all situations
  • Perform other related duties as needed or assigned
  • Assist in the warehouse when not delivering product
  • Must be able to work overtime, weekends and holidays to meet business needs

 Grain Handler

The candidate should be a self-starter and possess independent-thinking skills. The current opening for a Grain Handler is located at our Monnett location.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Properly load/unload trucks
  • Properly load railcars
  • Operate various equipment 
  • Perform minor maintenance and greasing of equipment
  • Assist with cleaning of bins and silos
  • Learn the proper operation of all equipment
  • Maintain and clean work area on a daily basis

Position Requirements

  • Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record (5 years)
  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Must have a positive attitude
  • Must be able to work at heights
  • MUST HAVE GOOD ATTENDANCE
  • Must be safety minded and follow all safety rules and guidelines
  • Must be able to meet and work with strict deadlines
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail

The Grain Handler position is labor intensive and will require bending, lifting, twisting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, climbing, working at heights and other various laborious activities.  This is an outdoor position which requires the handler to work in all sorts of weather and be exposed to dusty conditions.

Grain Merchant

Central Ohio Farmers Co-op, Inc. is seeking a Grain Merchant with an approachable, friendly demeanor and a strong customer service mindset. This position will coordinate the purchase, storage, handling, and marketing of all grain transactions for the grain department’s trade area in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings.  

Position Responsibilities

The grain merchandiser’s responsibilities include recordkeeping, merchandising, grain origination profitability and sales, and other duties as assigned by management.

The grain merchandiser will maintain a positive attitude that promotes team work within the cooperative and a favorable image of the cooperative.

Recordkeeping

Recordkeeping involves maintaining accurate records, including a consolidated daily position record and grain related records, and developing and maintaining a working knowledge of grain industry requirements.

Merchandising

Merchandising involves establishing and communicating a grain marketing policy and a company grain policy, and determining daily bids.

Grain Origination Profitability and Sales

The grain merchandiser will develop and implement programs and merchandising tools to establish the cooperative as customers’ preferred merchandiser.

 Requirements

Minimum of two (2) years of grain merchandising experience.

Prefer minimum of Associate’s Degree in Ag-related studies.

Must have clean driving record.

Driver Class A CDL

Position Responsibilities:

COFC has a current opening for a Driver Class A CDL. This position includes working indoors and outdoors with both grain operations and agronomy. This employee will be trained on loading and delivering both grain and agronomy products. This position will require occasional overtime including weekends and holidays as needed. Candidates must have a valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver License with a clean driving record. The candidate will also need to maintain a minimum of one (1) year DOT physical and any necessary endorsements. An agricultural background is preferred, but not required.

Position Responsibilities

This position includes working indoors and outdoors with grain and feed operations. The ideal candidate will be willing and able to cross-train on multiple job duties including but not limited to; fulfilling feed orders, grain dump operations, grain handling, general housekeeping of facilities and various other duties. This position will require occasional overtime including weekends and holidays as needed.

Position Responsibilities

  • Understand and operate automated grain dump systems
  • Blend product as prescribed and/or generate blends for feed
  • Monitor and maintain quality of inventory and blended product
  • Properly load/unload trucks
  • Perform minor maintenance and greasing of equipment
  • Assist with cleaning of bins and silos
  • Clean and maintain work area on a daily basis
  • Communicate with management concerning daily activities

We are seeking team members who desire to work with knowledgeable mentors and coaches to develop the skills needed for a successful career.  Current opening for Custom Applicator is in New Bloomington

 

To be successful as a Custom Applicator, the candidate should enjoy working both independently and in a team environment, be a self-starter, possess independent-thinking skills and have strong basic math skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS

  • Communicate with Agronomist or location manager concerning daily activities
  • Apply dry and liquid fertilizer, chemicals and lime to customer's fields
  • Assist in housekeeping and maintenance of facility grounds
  • Assist with outbound and inbound agronomy products
  • Understand and follow all safety guidelines
  • Maintain & record maintenance of all equipment
  • Record daily application logs.
  • Assist with measure and counting of inventory of dry and liquid fertilizers, NH3, lime, and chemicals.
  • Operate all equipment & vehicles according to COFC policy and procedure along with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Provide courteous customer service.

 

REQUIREMENTS

EXPERIENCE: Farming background or prior agriculture related employment required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures using basic math skills

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Commercial pesticide applicators license with 2A and 2C endorsements or able to obtain one.

Must have an acceptable motor vehicle record. This position requires the safe operation of a motor vehicle to perform the essential functions of the job. The employee must meet the qualifications set forth in COFC’s motor vehicle safety policy. Failure to meet these qualifications could result in removal from this position.
